Join Endeavour’s expert faculty in the stunning French Alps of Morzine for a practical and immersive approach to working in remote environments.

This course takes a holistic approach to expedition medicine through being entirely scenario and workshop based. You will work through real life cases examining how medical care integrates with human factors and leadership when coordinating care in remote or extreme locations.

Our highly experienced faculty, all with years of expedition and medical experience will facilitate open discussions around core topics and the nuances of being an expedition medic. We also enjoy learning from you, so please bring your stories to the table on this course.

The beautiful location of Morzine has plenty to offer: skiing, hiking, cross country skiing, randonnee, ice rinks, alpine cafes and restaurants to suit all outdoor enthusiasts. We all stay together in a fully catered chalet to ensure we make the most of networking opportunities in the world of expedition medicine.

COURSE STRUCTURE

  • 5 day course 
  • One day lecture based online learning pre departure
  • Four days practical in Morzine: 22nd – 25th January
  • Luxury all inclusive chalet accommodation with hot tub, meals and wine 21st -26th January
The pre course lectures give you the necessary background knowledge you need to approach the practical aspects of working in remote environments. The lectures are accessed on line and available two weeks prior to the course and for the duration of the course. The 4 day practical course will encompass scenarios, workshops and discussions to deliver an immersive experience of Expedition Medicine and Leadership. The course will run from 2-7pm enabling you to enjoy the mountains in the morning.

Expedition Medicine Practical Course – 4 Days

In this fresh approach to expedition medicine we will utilise the course time to immerse you in the situational and human factors that impact on your decision making around physical and mental health on expedition.

The course will be delivered through practical workshops, scenarios, discussions and debate. Practical workshops will take place on the mountain and include: trauma, packaging casualties, fractures, dislocations and splinting, radio work, rope skills and basic navigation.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Endeavor courses deliver high-quality teaching in expedition and remote medicine. Teaching is led by experienced professionals in the field. It is immersive, holistic and flexible to help all attendees meet their personal development goals.
All courses are directly aligned to the Professional Capabilities set out by the UK Foundation Training, and post graduate specialty training curricula. Specifically, all courses cover clinical assessment and prioritization, addresses complexity and uncertainty, communication skills, holistic planning, fitness for practice (wellbeing), ethical and legal principles, health promotion and illness prevention and leadership.
Endeavour course trainers are all familiar with principles of good supervision and training and can complete any work-based assessments undertaken during the course (including CEXs and CBDs). Reflective practice is also encouraged. Courses offer 30 hours (Expedition medicine and leadership) or 20 hours (Altitude medicine) of CPD.

Includes: Catered accommodation in a luxury alpine chalet  with easy access to ski slopes;  Half Board  (except chalet off day);

Travel: you must book your fights and transfers.

Location: The chalet is located between Morzine and Les Gets with private transfer to ski slopes each day.

The chalet is booked from Sunday 21st until Friday 26th January. The practical aspect of the course runs from Monday 22nd -Thursday 25th.  You can complete the 1 day of virtual course at any time prior to the practical.

Activity: You are free to choose your winter activity in the morning. The Portes du Soleil offers a range of activity from a vast ski area, ski du fond, ice skating, snow shoeing, sledging, winter hiking.  There are lots of offers on the Portes du Soleil website including January pack and Friends and family passes.
