ENHANCE GENERALISM COURSE
What we Aim to Achieve
What is our Enhance generalism course?
The Enhance Generalism Course aims to build on the principles set out in The Future Doctor Programme by strengthening clinicians' abilities to deliver complex, comprehensive care in a constantly changing healthcare environment. We hope that through the course participants will gain a greater appreciation for generalism, and its increasingly necessary role in the modern healthcare environment.
Our course is aimed at groups of trainees, with the support of their deanery. If you are interesting in signing up for this course, organising a teaching session for your trainees or would like more information, please get in touch here
How we Deliver
The course is delivered by a highly experienced faculty using simulation, workshops, lectures, and open discussions, often taking place in an outdoor setting to encourage participants to think and reflect on healthcare outside of the usual clinical medical model.
These sessions focus around the 6 domains highlighted within the Enhance Programme, whilst also ensuring that themes in wellbeing, transformative reflection, leadership and digital technologies are underpinning the course content and delivery.
-
Prioritising taking care of yourself and others, with an awareness that strategies used to support wellbeing may be unique to everyone
-
Using critical reflection to reframe and develop our own decision making, cultivating new perspectives on complex, uncertain situations
-
Promotion of compassionate, collaborative and inclusive leadership which focuses on improving health and wellbeing
-
Promoting ethical use of digital technologies to optimise healthcare outcomes, reduce health inequalities and facilitate collaboration and information sharing
Why this matters
We recognise the need for a greater understanding of the importance of generalism in modern medicine.
Throughout the course, by empowering person-centred practice and understanding the complex multimorbidity that our patients are living with, incomplex systems of working, we give delegates an appreciation of the difference they can make in improving public health in their communities and beyond.
Through interactive workshops around justice, health equity and the evolving role that environmental sustainability will have in healthcare, together we discuss the challenges we will face in our practice, whilst demonstrating and identifying ways towards solutions.

Additionally, This course is accredited by the Enhance Trailblazer site of Royal Devon and Exeter Hospitals. Participants completing this course can gain 16 hours towards their Enhance Enable certificate which counts towards speciality training applications.
